CVS Training Manual

CVS Training Manual

Notes about this manual:

This is the first draft of a CVS training manual. CVS is a free source code revision control system based on the popular RCS revision control system. CVS supports multiple streams of development, branches, tagging and checkpointing, remote repository access, and other features as described in this manual.

As of the time of writing, this manual is mostly complete. It is still missing introductory text from some of the paragraphs, although that can be fixed up with sticky tape later on. The section on EMACS and CVS still needs to be written, and the section dealing with tkCVS needs to be improved. This can be considered an "alpha release" manual for comment and improvement.

The manual is released to the public under the GNU copyleft, in the hope that it will be of some assistance to CVS users, consultants and trainers world wide. This manual describes a training course which is intended to be delivered by a CVS expert or trainer to an audience who know nothing or very little about CVS. It can therefore be treated as a basis for further learning on CVS, rather than the source of all knowledge about CVS in itself -- some of the more complex aspects of CVS are glossed over, or the reader is referred to further places of information (the CVS manual, user guide or FAQ).

The manual is available as this hypertext document (HTML format), as a PostScript file, or as a MS Word 6.0 file. There is a set of slides (mostly complete, in xfig format) which accompany this manual. These will be released in the near future.
