The main problems I faced was the availability of the
libraries for librpm and libz, otherwise it should work.
I found precompiled binaries for rpm at
http://www.solaris.rpm.org/ , unfortunately I couldn't
use them on the local solaris-2.6 machine since it couldn't
find the libz shared libraries :
ld.so.1: /usr/local/bin/rpm: fatal: libz.so.1.0.4: open failed: No such file
I definitely think it should work once one have been able to
compile rpm and libz ... I can try to invest more time to help you
bootstrap if you feel the need for it !

Good idea :-)
