| Summary: Simple daemonizing helper | |
vsrun is a single program which can be used to daemonize another program. It's itended for use by boot-time scripts wishing to launch a server process. It's useful with programs written in languages where you have limited control over the execution of early initialization code (e.g. C++). It has a number of useful features, including changing users, writing a pidfile, redirecting standard input/output/error, and restricting to a chroot. It can also monitor a process for unexpected termination (i.e. a crash) and take some action (such as sending e-mail) and restart the server. While it's distributed with Vesta for use with its servers, it can be used with other programs as well.
