The calculations used are based on a paper entitled 'SOLAR CALCULATIONS' by Professor K.E. Holbert (see http://www.eas.asu.edu/~holbert/eee463/SolarCalcs.pdf). The software is known not to work reliably (yet) for latitudes in the arctic and antarctic regions. This is due to errors in the implementation and not the original calculations.
